Racial Diversity - Part 3

At first, I was only doing this in response to something I felt moving inside me: I just wanted to help. I wanted to go someplace new and make a difference.

But something happened once I got there. Did you know that this test isn’t fair? It’s not like somebody (at least I don’t think so) went out and said “let’s get these guys,” but that is what often happens anyway: because I grew up hearing a certain kind of English, I can do okay on the test. Because I grew up in a house that could send me to private school if the public schools didn’t teach well, I can do math. Well, not all people get to grow up where I grew up. And the people who wrote test, it seems like they just don’t get it.

My friend Eddie Broussard says it’s a matter of numbers: if you are in the “big group” you get more “votes.” You get to decide what English gets tested and how much money needs to go wherever.

And that might be the way it is, but it’s not right. So, even though I just wanted to help, now I’m in it for the fight. This is a battle for the justice of the Kingdom and for our great King!
